This little gizmo is a wonder. We had owned a street pilot and upgraded to some very pricey Nuvi a while back. Loved the street pilot. Totally hated the nuvi (That model is not made and sold anymore). Literally threw it out, fed up with it and the service Garmin gave us. Why we went on to buy ANY Garmin I will never know! We did and the 255W is perfect. Easy to use. Accurate. Very reasonably priced. True, it is very basic, but we don't need anything more. Try it. You will like it!

A great improvement over my old GPS. Locks onto satellites really quick. I like being able to choose the voices too. British female sounds classy. Only complaint is having to back out of the main screen to adjust volume.

This GPS is a very helpful and effective way of getting accurate directions for both long trips as well as short hops in a local area. Customer support is excellent and the webupdater from Garmin gives even more options than those included on the device (like different voice choices, not simply corrections of glitches). There have been very few errors in some of the directions, generally only saying the location was on the opposite side of the road than what it really was. The display is easy to read and I like the speed limit posting near the speed you are driving at--a quick glimpse gives all you need to know. Some of the tools are fantastic, such as a calculator and even a world map showing day/night so you have a nice pictoral representation of the time it is anywhere in the world. I am constantly finding new features on the GPS. I think the only thing the 255w doesn't have is an alarm clock!! A fantastic product and a superb value.

Never owned one of these. Just returned from a trip to New Mexico, where it guided me accurately to obscure addresses down dirt roads. For some reason, it took me by two different routes around Kansas City, one going and a different one returning. The first seemed better, as the 2nd involved driving through the city. But maybe there was a reason for that. Anyway, these things are priced so reasonably now that there's no reason not to own one. Another cool feature is that it interfaces with your computer, so that you can find an address on Mapquest, and download it to your GPS.

The only thing this is really missing is the ability to "teach" the unit. I would give it five stars if I could get it to permanently ignore streets or routes. It consistently wants me to drive through a winding apartment complex as opposed to driving 250 yards down the road and taking a main (straight) street. Does this too much for me to really trust it when I am out of town. It gets me where I am going, but not in the best way which annoys me. This makes the trip unpleasant for my wife and I since I tend to get mad at the device!

Even if you drive only on a city this is a must have for your card. It has save me a lot of times when I have to go to some place I don't know or I don't remember. If you travel to another country and rent a card this is a MUST HAVE. Works perfectly in Costa Rica. The overall rating of this GPS is very good.

The widescreen display makes it possible to view the names of roads that you are passing on the screen--which makes it much easier to differentiate between which road to turn on when there are two streets on your right (not clearly labeled) that are only one house apart...which has happened to me twice... Also, the fact that the Garmin Nuvi 255W speaks street names is also helpful in times like these. In addition, another feature I find to be immensely helpful is how fast the Nuvi 255W recalculates your position if you do miss a turn. I love the detour feature, it saved me a ton of time when I heard there was an accident on the highway and took back roads that I would have never known existed! I would recommend the Garmin Nuvi 255W to anyone looking for a fast, reliable, and easy to use GPS system.
Garmin Nuvi 255W connects to satellites extremely fast--So when I get in my car and turn it on, we're pretty much ready to go immediately. The new display posts speed limit signs of major roads flush left on the screen, which is a new feature that is also really helpful, if you're driving in an unfamiliar area.
